Covid-19 survival kit

list of what I would put in my survival kit:
  • canned food
  • water bottles and jug
  • laptop, phone with chargers
  • art supplies
  • makeup
  • sudoku book
  • puzzles
  • fan
  • candles
  • cleaning supplies
  • headphones
  • rosary beads
  • my dogs (pets cannot contract covid-19)
  • comfy seat (where I will be doing most of my sitting)
  • books
In my current situation, this is affecting me a
lot. Switching to online classes is eating away all of my time since professors are substituting in class dissolution with huge amounts of written work. Other than all of the school work, staying in the house has been tough, but it's the safest option right now.

1. This being our first online project, how did our new format change your experience of working in this class?
Personally, it has been pretty difficult to get motivated in doing art projects because I haven't been in the right head space. Being at Tyler really helped me get motivated to do art and be creative. So I guess it has changed for the worse, but I am more than wiling to try to make this work. I think that the hardest part will be not being able to call you over and get a quick fix answer about my question.

2. How did you challenge yourself creatively, conceptually and/or technically in the making of this piece?
This website and aspect of 3D in a computer was very difficult for me. That is why I picked something pretty easy to create. But using the the website as a whole was challenging for me. the arms on the chairs were also difficult for me to perfect, but I am happy with the end result of them.

3. Were there elements that made the completion of this piece either more difficult or felt not challenging enough?
I don't think that anything about this project was too difficult or not challenging enough, given this whole transition to online. Yes, the website was challenging for me, but overall, I think that it was a good balance.

4. Reflect on the project critique: was the feedback you received helpful? Be specific about why or why not.
Yes, the feedback was helpful but I didn't get much of it, which is okay I don't mind. Someone suggested that I make the digit in the chair a little less prominent, which I agreed with. some one else suggested that I should give it a pattern and while I like that idea, I also like the smooth simplicity of this piece.

5. Was there anything that your professor could have done to better support you thought this project?
No, this is a very difficult transition and it is stressful for everyone. So the fact that she was available during the class time in general for us to ask questions was helpful.

6. Please share any other thoughts.
I am excited to start premier

Blog 4 Response

Composing Movement:
This video discussed a lot of different details and fundamentals of film. I originally thought that it would be talking about paintings when the narrator asked the question about visual interest. The whole movement concept of the video was very cool. It gave me a different perspective on movement since it was being explained in film terms. last, the detail in each scene and talking about the way that the camera moved added extra input which I didn't pay close attention to, but will in the future.

Editing Space and Time:
For this video, I don't have too too much to say. This is because I don't make videos myself or watch many animated movies or videos, so I don't edit or consider time in making it. that being said, it was cool to be able to see what different editors do in comparison to others, and sometimes mimic each others style. I especially liked the attention to detail when he talked about scenes ending. the cuts in between scenes were neat to hear about while watching them and hearing about the process involved.

How to structure a video essay:
This whole idea of "F for fake" got a little confusing to me. Personally I tried to understand what it meant but I couldn't wrap my hear around it. However, I thought that the "and then" sequence that he was talking about was very interesting. It is so true how almost every movie has a "and then" multiple times now that I think about it. I will definitely be keeping this in mind when I watch another movie.

The poetry of details:
when watching this, It made me realize how much everyone on the crew of a movie takes into consideration the most minute details. watching the scenes from one specific film and how Lynne Ramsay put every shot in perspective was very cool to see. the repetition of details was also interesting to me, because it really does show the viewer how important that part actually is.

Project 2 & response question

1. In what way did you change your process to make a piece that was site specific?

This aspect of the project was very challenging for me. I had multiple different idea in different settings and on different sites. In the end I did decide to put it on my fan, and had to change the sizing to make sure that the moon phases would fit on each of the spokes at their largest width.

2. How did you challenge yourself creatively, conceptually and/or technically in the making of this piece? If you did not feel challenged is there something you would do differently if you were to do it again?

Although my design, technically, was not very challenging, but very easy to create, I felt challenged in the other aspects. Conceptually this was difficult for me because I was trying to think of cool things that could work on my fan but nothing felt as interesting as having the moons on each spoke. Creatively, I brainstormed different areas in my house with I could do a piece but since I liked the element of movement so much I though that it would be cool to do something on my fan.

3. Were there elements that made the completion of this piece either more difficult or felt not challenging enough?

in completing this piece, the actual installing portion of it was challenging for me. But that also could be because of my location and object that I pit them on.

4. Reflect on the critique and consider how your experience was different from the first: was the feedback you received helpful? Be specific about why or why not.

There honestly wasn't much said during my critique because My piece wasn't hard to figure out, nor did I have a super deep meaning behind it. But from the feedback that I did receive, I agree with. I am happy with the piece, but as people mentioned I should have changed up the directions of the crescent moons, I feel that would make my piece stronger.

5. Please share any other thoughts.

I was very happy with my feedback, and I appreciated the compliments and constructive criticism.

Blog Response 3

My interpretation of this reading is that it is very interesting. I like how it starts off talking about what the typical "street artist" is defined as, but then goes on to talk about other aspects like graffiti, and Murals. I thought that Millers work was amazing. I loved the technique and precision of her piece, but it is also super interesting how she did it using sugar icing which makes in non-destructive. The part when it mentions if it is ethical I do have an opinion on. I believe that it shouldn't be a problem to a certain extent. I think that harmless words or strong messaged images are healthy to have in public spaces. However, inappropriate or harmful works should be reserved for the home in my opinion. The ascetic part of artwork is always what I look forward to the most. I enjoy seeing work in public spaces that relate to the surroundings. for example, there is a mural on Broad street which has many African American figures. At one time that area could have been occupied by African Americans, so I think that is great to keep that sense of rich culture through art. Lastly, I thought that the part about tagging graffiti and street art is important. This is because the artist should be recognized, but in a way that doesn't necessarily have to give away his or her identity.

Project 1: Sketchy Classroom

  1. How do you feel about the overall outcome of this piece in relation to your art making process? I feel pretty good about the overall outcome of my project. I at first had a completely different idea, but I am glad that I decided to stick through with this piece. I am hoary with the result. I think that my art making process for the project was difficult, but I like a challenge, but I like how we are forced to put our personal pieces into this work.
  2. In what way did you integrate your personal art practice into this project? My integration of my personal art practice is in a couple of different places. First, there are three heads which each are self portraits. Next, I created that cityscape in the window for a different piece, and I am glad that people were surprised when I mentioned that it was drawn, that meant a lot to me. Last, is the frame on the left side of this piece. It is a family self portrait through objects. I wanted to incorporate this piece because family is a huge part of my life and I'm glad that I could fit it in.
  3. How did you challenge yourself creatively, conceptually and/or technically in the making of this piece? I definitely challenged myself a lot with this work. I am not a good person for technical work, id much rather use a pencil or paintbrush, so that was difficult in general. creatively, it was hard to think of what else I could incorporate besides the heads, but I am happy I decided to add different facial features. lastly, a big challenge I faced was what to do with the back wall, there was originally a weird angled window and indent, so I didn't know what to do. it took me all three class periods to figure out what to do.
  4. Were there elements that made the completion of this piece either more difficult or felt not challenging enough? For me personally I feel that it was difficult to make 30 layers, even though we can add a lot of effects to add on to the layers, I feel like I wouldn't have added as much if I didn't have to create 30 layers. I don't think in my opinion that anything about this project was not challenge enough, but that could also be because I am not a technology person.
  5. Reflect on the project critique: was the feedback you received helpful? Be specificabout why or why not. The feel bad was very helpful for me. I do feel however that everyone else pieces were very deep and really about peoples inner feelings, and I didn't focus on that, and I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing, I am happy with all of the compliments and criticism I received  I agree with everyone who mentioned the floor, I think it would look better if I made it tile. Overall. I was happy with everything that anyone had to say. and I am thankful for all of the compliments.
  6. Please share any other thoughts. This project although hard, was very fun to make and I am very happy with the result. it was interesting to see how everyone else interpreted this project, especially into comparison with what I've been working on.

Project 1 Brainstorming Blog Post

  • Who are you and how does your artistic practice reflect that identity?
  • Im a student studying art education. my art is a huge part of my identity. It is the only thing that I have ever been able to say is my strong suit, so I explain art as a big part of how I view myself.

  • How does your presence on social media reflect that identity?
  • Not necessarily. I don't show my art much on my social media, because I mostly draw people, but I hope to show off some of my pieces in the future.

  • How do your friends reflect that identity?
  • My friends Vary when It comes to reflecting my identity. Being an art major, I am basically surrounded by artist.  this means that since they are artists as well, they do reflect my art. my other friends however, just bring out me and my personality.

  • How do your values reflect that identity?
  • My values mostly stem from my relationships, wether that be with friends or a partner, or family. I think that my values also make up a big portion of my identity, because I value relationships so much.

  • Is there a difference between your internal and external self?
  • Yes, my internal self reveals that I am an introvert, I love a good night at home just watching movies. my external self also likes to go out and have a good time and meet new people.
  • How do you present an image that communicates your personality?
  • I guess it might just be a picture of me sitting at home hanging out but also on the flip side I would be out with friends.

The students work which is most similar to what id like to do is the girl who cut her head into two sections and had herself at a table in between the sections of her head. I like this piece because its a new idea to get the viewer to look all over the piece including inside of the head.
The idea with this sketch is to be open and out in public having a good time in the top image. then in the middle having a separation, almost like a sound board system, complex lines connecting like brain cells. then the bottom will be me just hanging out at home being introverted with my artwork hanging in the background, maybe some still in progress.

For this sketch, I wanted to make it a little bit more deep. I would use a mirrored image to show the different sides of me, but still keep only my body the same, to show that I am entirely the same person, but I have some layers.

    Response 2: American Artist

    Response 2: American Artist

I thought this reading was interesting. The fact that this person legally changed their name to American Artist is very courageous in my opinion, I feel that not a lot of people would agree with it. I think that it is a bold statement and I have a lot of respect for the person. The reasoning for their name change, also was inspiring, because they did it to hopefully gain more respect for the African American community. The artwork which Artist makes is cool, for example, the seven on seven is a neat concept because people don't know how to respond the right way sometimes so it could be a helpful tool. I would love to see one of Artists works in person.

    My Cupcake Collection

    1. Is there something physical you collect?
When I was young I collected little glass figurines (animals mostly). I also used to collect erases shaped as food, I couldn't tell you why. Currently, the only thing which I can think of that I collect is my old empty perfume bottles.

    2. What digital collections do you have?
I have weird pictures form middle School of my friends and I, which I have no intension of looking at or sharing with anyone. I honestly don't know why I still have them.

3.How does the digital world affect the way we collect?
The internet collects data 24/7 which is a form of digital media. Also it can advertise certain things to people  which they could poetically collect in the future.

    4.How Many?
I chose to collect 5 cupcakes because I'm not the most experienced in photoshop so it took me a while to erase each background.

5.Why did you choose to collect what you did?
I chose to collect cupcakes because they are the perfect dessert. They come in a multitude of flavors, and they're basically a serving size of a full cake.
